Ruling · 900.19
Macabre while the Macabre unit is Entrapped
This rule is part of the Comprehensive Rules, where every cross-reference resolves in one page.
- Question
- A unit with a Macabre line is Entrapped when something dies. Does the line fire?
- Answer
- Yes, and then it loses only the parts that point back at the Entrapped unit.
- 900.19aEntrap gates what a unit receives. It does not stop a unit from hearing an event, so the death is heard and the Macabre line resolves normally.
- 900.19bEach clause is then checked against its own recipient. A self power gain, a self Speed gain, a self heal, and granting itself Everlasting all name the Entrapped unit as the recipient, so all four produce nothing.
- 900.19cA clause naming other units keeps working. Adjacent-ally buffs land on each adjacent ally that passes the ally gate, and board-wide clauses — reducing every enemy's Focus, Envenoming every Dreaded enemy — land on each enemy that passes the recipient gate.
- 900.19dThose recipients are gated individually, so an Entrapped ally beside the Macabre unit still receives nothing, and an Entrapped enemy is still skipped.
- 900.19eThe other gates apply as always on top of that. A Relentless enemy refuses the Focus reduction as a stat reduction and refuses the Venom as a blocked status, so a board-wide Macabre clause can resolve and still change nothing.
- 900.19fNone of this survives the unit's own death. A dead unit stops listening to Macabre entirely — but a Phylactery revival puts it back on the board mid-round, and it hears every death after that.
